About Us

The Section ‘Semitic Studies’ of the DMG promotes research, teaching and scholarly exchange on the Semitic languages and their literatures from antiquity to the present day. It supports the organisation of Semitic studies panels at the Deutscher Orientalistentag, convenes its own specialist meetings between congresses, and serves as a forum for methodological, didactic and disciplinary policy issues.

The Section brings together scholars from Germany and abroad, supports early-career researchers, and represents the interests of Semitic studies within the DMG as well as vis-à-vis academic institutions. Membership is open to all DMG members who wish to join.
